If the coil has a rectangular cross section, it is convenient to use SDEFCOIL (Surface Defined Current Source). At this time, there are no restrictions as described above, but it is necessary to define the four surfaces surrounding the coil. Here, we will use SDEFCOIL to execute the same analysis performed with ELMCUR.

Explanation

Fig.1　Line elements that define the coil surface

Fig.2　 Coil definition surface element

Fig.3　 Coil current density distribution

Again, extend the 2D mesh to a 3D mesh. For surface definition, define a line element (FEMAP bar element) as shown in Fig.1. Define the direction of the line element in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 1 so that the surface faces the coil area. Extend pre_geom2D.neu containing these mesh data in the z direction using a 2D_to_3D file. This creates four surfaces inside EMSolution that surround the coil, as shown in Fig.2. The surface is defined to face the inside of the coil. Define SDEFCOIL in the input file and execute.

Figure 3 shows the coil current distribution after execution. You can see that a uniform current is flowing in the coil. The magnetic field distribution, etc. will be the same as in the case of ELMCUR.

How to use

In the region of physical property number 3, a current of 1500A (z> = 0) is applied to the coil having four surface elements with physical properties 101,102,103,104.

* SDEFCOIL * SERIES_NO * NO_PARTS *
SDEFCOIL             1                      1
* MAT_ID * S_MAT_ID1 * S_MAT_ID2 * S_MAT_ID3 * S_MAT_ID4 * CURRENT *  SIGMA  *
3                 101                 102                  103                 104              1500.           5.e7

Download

Sample data DL

・ input
・ pre_geom2D.neu ：Mesh file
・ 2D_to_3D ：2D mesh extension file

Summary When applying a current source using "ELMCUR (internal current source)", it is necessary to align the size and orientation of the elements, and it is difficult to use when applying current in the inward direction of the triangular prism with a tetrahedral element or a triangular prism element.
